Unique gilt brass 2-light table lamp with Antique Faience blue and cream Architectural Fragment

Anonymous
18th century and last half of the 20th century; Hamburg, Germany
Polychrome faience and gilt brass
Approximate size, including shade: 26 (h) x 19 (w) x 6 (d) in.
An extraordinary two-light custom-made gilt brass table lamp fitted with an 18th century arched Baroque faience fragment once forming part of a tiled German stove. This particular fragment must have formed the central crown above the firebox or possibly surmounted the central crown trim of the stove. The fragment features an eloquent floral motif polychromed in two-tone cream and blue colored glaze. A raised cartouche completes the centralized design.
Stoves of the 18th century provided radiant heat and were frequently designed to distinctly form part of a room's architecture. As such, they were often lavishly decorated, representing the zenith of quality craftsmanship in the arts of faience and ceramics.
The oval-form shade, height-adjustable, is aged but maintains a parchment-like demeanor, trimmed with a gilt stripe.
This lamp is truly unique and proves the outstanding timeless beauty of late Baroque elegance.
Condition: very good with some minor tarnish to the brass framework, patina along upper rim of candlesticks due to bulb heat and some scuff marks and discoloration of the shade due to age. The faience fragment’s condition is commensurate with age, with minor chips, losses and thin craquelure.
Note: Electrified although not yet tested.
