16th century gilt reliquary base with modern white coral
An early 16th century gilt bronze French reliquary base with a rock crystal cabochon and modern fragment of preserved white coral.
The gilt base, ca. 1525, is comparable with the base of a reliquary featuring standing angels at the Musee de Cluny (Inv. CL14082)
Beset with a fabulous rock crystal cabachon. Old inventory beneath cabachon mount: No. 6790
Approximate size of base: 5 x 5 x 2.5 (h) in.
Wear commensurate with age and a loss to the lower left corner of the rock crystal cabochon. Coral loose and not permanently mounted.
